This region is blessed with an incredible diversity of natural beauty and culture. Due to
it’s isolation and lack of teahouses this area receives a few trekkers. Sherpas, Rais and Limbus are
the main habitants of the region. Walking north up the Arun River to Sedua and Num, then
crossing Barun La (4110m) into the upper Barun Khola valley for a close look at Makalu
(8463m.) You can put together an even wilder trek by crossing Serpani col and west col into the
upper Hongu valley. The second part of the trek is very difficult and almost impossible without
previous experience.

Day 1: Kathmandu-Khandbari

After flying to Tumlingtar we walk north to Khandbari. The trail crosses a plateau (45
minutes) then climbs gradually for about 3 hours. We camp above the village on large grassy

We walk through many small picturesque villages, occasionally on steep trails for 3 hours to reach Goure. Chichira is 3 hours further, still uphill.

Day 3: Chichira-Num

The morning starts with wonderful views of Makalu and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. The path an ancient trading route, after a few ups and downs, descends through the forest to Num.

We descend steeply for 1.5 hours to the suspension bridge across the Arun River. It is a two hour ascent to Kerabari. We then continue upwards for 2 or more hours to Naragaon(Shidda.)

Day 5: Navagaon-Tashigaon

Ascending through the forest we pass the beautiful village of Tashigaon, the last villageen route to the camp.

Day 6:Tashigaon-Khonpma

We climb out of the forest to the grazing area of Khonpma, 5.5 hours away. We have a
packed lunch because of the lack of the water in between Tashigaon and Khonpma.

Day 7: Khonpma-Mumbuk(5180m)

Above Khonpma we occasionally walk on snow (depending on the season) to Changse
Danda. Two hours further on is Magar Chanse Danda. Makalu and the surrounding Himalaya is a spectacular view. We camp just over the Barun Pass.

Day 8: Mumbuk-Nehekharka

Starting early we take about an hour to cross some landslides. 4 hours further on over the higher river plains is Nehekharka.

Day 9:Nehekharka-Mear

After crossing the wooden bridge over the Barun river we trek beside the river on
grasslands to Mera. The mountain peaks here are awesome.
